Heartbeats by Lada Gaga Headphones from Monster

Product Description

The Heartbeats by Lady Gaga Headphones feature a unique, eye-catching style that won't go unnoticed; they seem very durable; and Monster includes a cute carrying case.

No one would ever accuse shock pop sensation Lady Gaga of being subtle. It stands to reason then that any item bearing her name is going to be flashy and perhaps just a wee bit ostentatious. Enter the Heartbeats by Lady Gaga Headphones, the first artist line from Monster and Beats by Dr. Dre. No doubt, these earphones are unlike any we've seen before, and their sturdy, eye-catching design is sure to turn some heads. However, comfort issues and a sometimes overpowering low end might prove problematic for some prospective buyers.

The Heartbeats are pretty much exactly what you would expect from Lady Gaga: completely over-the-top and stylish to the point of absurdity. Perhaps expectedly, these earphones are also not terribly concerned with comfort. The issue is that the large, triangular earpieces are not terribly ergonomic, which wouldn't be as much of a problem if the aperture arm was a bit longer. As it stands, the angular edges of the 'buds tend to press against the ear, causing some discomfort and also tending to push the earphones out constantly. In other words, where the Dr. Dre Tour earphones were for exceptionally deep ear canals, these appear to be for very shallow ones. Monster includes three sizes of silicone eartips in the package, though none worked for us. However, you also have the option of purchasing a variety of other tips, including a foam set and a triple-flanged set. The foam tips provided the most comfort, but tended to slip out of the ears.

But back to those large, triangular earpieces, as this is arguably where most of the Heartbeats' personality resides. Naturally, they are available in a variety of colors, including Rose Red, Black Chrome, and Bright Chrome. The latter two are shiny, and the former is matte but no less eye-catching, with its deep red hue. The outside of each earpiece is etched with a multitude of smaller triangles, which add a nice visual depth. This same effect is repeated in the included hard-sided case. Don't get your hopes too up, though: you'll find only plastic construction here.

Beats Solo by Dr. Dre Headphones from Monster

Product Description

The Beats Solo by Dr. Dre Headphones from Monster offer a stylish, compact, and durable design that lends itself well to on-the-go use. The cable is ultranice and features an integrated mic, iPod controls, and volume rocker. Bass is thumping, and the package includes a handy carrying case.

Once Monster dipped its toes into the headphone market, there was no stopping the cable manufacturer from releasing a bevy of earphones on the unsuspecting masses. From in-ear to on-ear to over-the-ear, you shouldn't have trouble finding a pair of undeniably stylish Monster headphones to suit your needs. The latest offering is the Beats Solo by Dr. Dre, an on-ear model that features ControlTalk, which is essentially fancy terminology for an inline mic and integrated controls for the iPod. This set offers all the bass we expected from the first two Dr. Dre headphones in a slick, compact package.

The Beats Solo headphones follow in the tradition of Monster's other Dr. Dre-branded earphones, right down to the black and white color options. This set looks very similar to the original model with the full-size earcups, except the overall size of everything is noticeably smaller because of the on-ear design. The earpieces, which feature the customary red lowercase b logo stamped in a fashionable brushed-chrome circle, are circular and measure just 2.2 inches across. The earpads swivel a bit in the base for a more comfortable fit and are designed to rest on the outer ear. While we found the Solo headphones quite comfortable for an hour or two, some may experience uncomfortable pressure from this design, as we did after a couple hours.

From the earcups to the headband, the Beats Solo headphones have a nice, quality feel to them. The adjustable band is metal coated in a soft, matte plastic and features a bit of padding on the top as well as the Dr. Dre logo stamped on the outside. A single, removable cable in the Beats' signature thick, red coating attaches to the left earcup via a gold-plated straight plug. Following this 50 inches to the other end brings you to an uber-reinforced gold-plated L-plug that attaches to your audio source. The cable appears to be exceptionally durable and is not at all tangle-prone, a definite plus in our book.

Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Tour In-Ear Headphones

Product Description

Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Tour In-Ear Headphones feature a unique and stylish design, and the cable seems more durable than that of most earbuds.

Fashion-forward designs have recently been making quite a bit of headway in the headphone space. It doesn't take much effort to find a pair that matches your MP3 player or can be coordinated by outfit, although manufacturers with true eyes for design take things a step further. Take Monster Cable's Beats by Dr. Dre Headphones, a super stylish set of cans announced at CES 2008. The company is now adding to the fashionable line with the Tour In-Ear Headphones, an ultraportable set that sports the signature red and black or white and red colouring. This pair once again proves that hip hop-branded headphones won't necessarily offer an overwhelming low-end response, and also leads us to believe Dr. Dre may have the deepest ear canals known to man.

The Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Tour In-Ear Headphones have perhaps the longest earpieces we've ever seen. The 'buds measure a full inch from end to end, and half of that length is made up of the arms that hold the eartips. Half an inch isn't that long for most gadgets, but the scale is considerably altered when you have to stick the gadget into your ear. As a result, fit can be an issue. Although Monster includes five sets of silicone eartips (three sizes of standard and two sizes of triple flange), we found the Tour earphones to be fairly uncomfortable and could never really get a secure fit. Plus, the ends of the 'buds tend to stick out pretty far from the head.
